Summary USB drive is the storage media that can store data and can be read in different devices. Therefore, it is favored by many users. However, the inside data is easily lost or stolen when out of password protection. In this essay, we will talk about how to protect the USB drive with password.
USB, fully known as USB flash disk, is the micro media with high storage capacity. It is used in the computer through the USB port.
However, the USB drive is always under risk of data leakage. For example, the virus attacks when it is connected to the computer. Therefore, in order to keep our data well, we should protect the USB drive with a password. Let’s read the next part about how to protect the USB drive with password.
Part 2: How to Protect USB Drive with Password on Windows?
1. Principle of USB Drive Encryption
Currently, there are three types of USB drive encryption:
A. Non-factual encryption. Users can set a password to hide file. But this is merely an identification way, without any actual protection.
B. Software encryption. The files are encrypted with the AES-shipped software.
C. Firmware encryption. The USB drive is equipped with the firmware that can encrypt data. This is the advanced encryption way.
All in all, there are many encryption ways for USB drive. But most of us seldom care about this aspect. If you want to protect your USB well, we recommend you use the encryption software, Renee SecureSilo, to protect the USB drive with password.
2. Encrypt USB Drive with Renee SecureSilo
① What is Renee SecureSilo?
Renee SecureSilo is the data encryption software that protects data stored in PC, hard disk and removable drive (i.e. USB drive and CD). With the advanced AES256 algorithms, it offers high protection to get rid of data leakage. What’s more, Renee SecureSilo provides the comprehensive encryption plans. Users can encrypt the files, folders and USB drive, but also hide or disguise them for protection.
In addition, it is very easy to use, available in different scenarios. Both of companies and individuals can meet their needs within this software.

In addition, you can create a silo in the computer and put your files into it. You can transfer the silo to the USB drive as you need. Here are the steps:
Step 1: Open Renee SecureSilo and connect the USB to the computer.
Step 2: Enter the password to enable the software. Then, select [Encrypt File].
Step 3: Click on [Create Silo] and set the name and path for the silo. After that, click on [Next] to go on.
Step 4: Set the password for the silo.
Step 5: Then, set a size for the silo.
Step 6: It will turn to the silo soon and place the files into the silo.
Step 7: If you want to transfer the silo into the USB drive, click on [Protect USB] > [Protect USB Drive].
Step 8: Check the option [Make my existing Silo portable] and click on [Next].
Step 9: Convert your existing silo to the portable one and copy to USB drive. Select the target and set the USB destination. Finally, click on [Next] to get started. The silo will be in the USB drive and the original data in the USB will not be affected.
