Step 1: Confirm the storage location of the iTunes backup files. Generally, the files are saved in the C disk. Search [MobileSync] and find the file named as [Backup].

Step 3: Copy the folder to the D disk and rename the folder in the C disk as [Backup-old].

Step 4: Press [Win + R] and search [cmd]. Then, type the command [mklink /J “%APPDATA%Apple ComputerMobileSyncBackup” “D:/Backup”].

Finally, press the Enter key to change the iTunes backup location.

2. Change iTunes Backup Location on Mac OS

iPhone backup files also take up much space on Mac OS. In the followings, we will show you how to change iTunes backup location on Mac OS.

Step 1: Generally, the default path is “/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup”. First, press the Option key while clicking on [Go] > [Library]. Then, get into [Application Support – MobileSync – Backup].

Step 2: Create a new folder in the external disk and then create the [Backup] folder within the MobileSync folder.

Step 3: Open Terminal and type the command. Then, press the Enter key:

Ln -s /Volumes/(name of the external disk)/MobileSync/Backup ~/Library/ApplicationSupport/MobileSync/Backup

We can check the name in Disk Utility.

For example, we are going to back up the iPhone to the LaCie external disk, and we should type the command:

ln -s /Volumes/LaCie/MobileSync/Backup ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup

Step 4: Close Terminal and open iTunes to back up iPhone. It is found that the iTunes backup location is set to the designated path.
