How to check if your backup file is encrypted

You can follow these steps to check the encrypted backup file:

① In the Mac shipped with MacOS Catalina 10.15, click on [Finder] – [General] – [Manage Backup]. Then, check the list of the backup files. In MacOS Mojave 10.14 or the earlier versions, or Windows, follow to click on [Edit] – [Preferences] – [Device], and then check the list.

② A lock icon is next to the backup file means the file is encrypted.

Solution 2: Clear Backup Password in iPhone/iPad

In iOS 11 or the latter versions, you can reset iPhone/iPad to clear the iTunes backup password when you forgot. Of course, you will not get access with the backup file anymore. However, in iOS 10 or the earlier versions, this solution cannot be used. Please view the next solution.

① On iPhone/iPad, tap on [Settings] > [General] > [Reset].
