How to Combine VOB files?

Part 1: What is VOB?

VOB is critical in DVD. It can store all MPEG-2 audios and videos, including the menu information, the operating interface and multiple subtitles.

Part 2: How to Combine VOB Files?

If you want to combine VOB files, you should solve two problems. First, how can we combine VOB files at different resolutions? Second, how can we select the target subtitles and audio tracks?

1. Combine VOB Files at Different Resolutions

Q: After combing the VOB files, I found the black bars flanked the video. Why?

A: Because the video resolutions are not identical. The resolution difference can cause the videos have different screen proportions. If these videos are combined, the black bars will appear on the output video. Take a 1280×720 (16:9) video as an example. If you want to change it to 720×480 (3:2), the black bars will appear after the conversion because the proportions are not identical.

Much on-sale video editors are only able to combine videos whose formats or resolutions are identical. That forces users to use the other coding tools to adjust the videos, even degrade the quality. 1. Open Renee Video Editor Pro and click [Video Toolbox].

2. Click [Add Files] to select the target video. Then, click [Output settings] and select the option [1280*720] in [Video size]. Click [OK].

3. Now, the output change can be previewed.

4. Then, add a 1920×1080 video. Since Renee Video Editor can get automatic recoding started, their resolution can become identical. Then, check the option [Merge all files into one] and click [Start] to combine the VOB files.

5. Open the output file to check whether there are black bars.

2. Select Subtitles and Audio Track to Combine

Although multiple subtitles and audio tracks can be stored in a VOB file, you can only select one subtitle and one audio track in the process of combing, cutting and converting. Therefore, you should be cautious with the subtitle and the audio track in fear that the combined video contains two set of subtitles and audio tracks. For example, the A video is dubbed into English and subtitled Chinese and the B video should follow this set.

Click [Add Files] again to select the target videos. Click the text button to select the target subtitles. Then, click the option [Merge all files into one] and select a format in [Output Format]. Finally, click [Start] to combine the files.

3. Simple Way to Combine VOB Files

1. Click [Add Files] to select the target files and check the option [Merge all files into one].

2. If you want to add some transition effect between videos, you can click the [No transition] button at the right side. Hundreds of transition effects are available for users.

3. Finally, click [Start] to output and save the video.

4. Advanced Way to Combine VOB Files – Video Overlay

The above way is a basic function in Renee Video Editor Pro. In fact, we can also add a video watermark as an advanced combination way. This is video overlay.

1. First, click [Add Files] to select the target video. Then, select the output format and the output folder. After that, go to the function [Watermark].

2. Click the button [Add video watermark] to select the target video. This video watermark can be freely adjusted and moved. If you need to further edit this video, such as the video length, transparency, special effect and duration time, you can continue to edit.

Part 3: Notes about Combining VOB Files

Some people may meet with these problems when combing the VOB files:

1. The VOB files are encrypted so they are not permitted to copy.

2. The quality of the combined video is worse than the original videos.

3. The images lag behind the audios on the combined video.

1. How If Files Get Protection？

If the VOB file is in protection, you cannot directly copy it. Yet, the professional software, such as DeCSS or SubRip can remove it. Please pay attention to the situation that the DVD has no CSS protection. If you use DeCSS to copy the DVD files at this time, you cannot copy any file. Once you meet with this situation, you should use the File Explorer to copy the files.

2. Lossy Combination and Lossless Combination

Lossless combination: It means that a video is edited directly. This way will not degrade the audio or video quality because it skips the process of recoding.

Lossy combination: It means that a video is encoded again and then edited. Generally, the coding way is lossy compression in a video. If the video is encoded again, the audio and video quality will be degraded.

3. Any Problem in Lossless Combination?

We can treat a video as a collection of bitmaps. If the bitmaps are large, the video will also be large. In order to speed up processing the video, the video editor generally compresses it to shrink the size. Yet, that will weaken the color performance.

4. Why Images Lag behind Audios?

1. Low computer equipment

If the computer is not equipped well, GPU cannot perform well. Then, the system is unable to update the images. Gradually, the images will lag behind the sounds. Please remember to troubleshoot the software at first. Try to update the drivers of the graphics card and the sound card and notice whether they are compatible with the hardware. If the latest versions don’t work, try the earlier versions.

2. Video bugs

Video bugs generated from the operations can lead images and sounds to be out of synchronization. At this situation, you have to give up the videos or download it again.

3. Improper use of video editor

Different video software is designed with different functions and usages. When you find that images lag behind sounds, you can review your operations on the video editor.

4. Bugs on video editor

If there are bug in the video splitter, you should update to the latest version or use the full version. If the problem cannot be solved, you should change a better application.

5. Bugs on video player

Too many video players will disorder the encoder and the decoder in the operating system, which leads images and sounds are out of synchronization. It is suggested that you install two video players at most.
