Basically, if an Android phone can play the song, it can be set as ringtone. Among various audio formats, MP3 is the main format in Android and M4R is for iOS.

How to edit ringtones:

① Download and install Renee Audio Tools. Then, launch the software and click [Converter].

② Click [Add Files] to select the target song.

③ Select the function [Cut]. Then, drag the progress bar or set the start and end time to cut the clip out of the song.

④ Once you finish cutting, click [OK] to go back the main interface. Select the output format (MP3 for Android, M4R and M4A for iOS), the audio quality and the output folder. Then, click [Start] to save the edited file.

How to mix songs:

① Open Renee Audio Tools and click [Converter].

② Click [Add Files] to select the target clip, and then go to the function [Mix].

③ Click [Load Music] to select the target songs and then adjust the volume. Finally, click [OK].

⑥ Click [Add Files] to select the mixed clip and click [Add to iTunes]. Then, sync it to your phone. Please install iTunes beforehand.

Part 2: iTunes (Applied to iOS)

iTunes is a free multimedia software serving iOS and Mac users. It can manage videos and audios. Some simple operations, like converting formats and cutting, can be completed in iTunes.

How to edit songs:

① Launch iTunes and select the target songs. Then, right-click at it and select [Song Info].

② In the tab [Options], tick the Start and Stop checkboxes and enter the times between which you’d like your ringtone to be. Finally, click [OK].

③ As the clip is selected, click [File] > [Convert] > [Create AAC version]. The cut clip will be shown in Library.

④ Highlight the cut clip, and then click [File] > [Show in Finder]. After that, this .m4a file will be shown on Finder.

⑤ Rename the file extension from .m4a to .m4r. Then, connect your iPhone to iTunes and sync it to your iPhone. Now, you can set it as your phone ringtone.

Ringdroid is free, open-source audio software for editing ringtones. Users can use it to record and edit audios used for ringtones. MP3, WAV, AAC, MP4, 3GP and AMR are supported by Ringdroid.
