What to Do When Screen Auto Lock Fails on iPhone

1. Check the Lock Screen Time You Set in Settings

If you select “Never” in the Auto-lock setting in iPhone, the device will not lock the screen even the screen is black. Please go to the following settings steps to enable iPhone auto lock screen.

Go to [Settings], then [Display & Brightness] and check the time you select in [Auto-Lock]. If you select [Never], the auto lock will not be executed. Please select the time you want the iPhone to execute the auto lock to enable this function.

Besides, users are not allowed to change the auto-lock time if the Low Power Mode is turned on. If this mode is on, the device will lock the screen automatically in 30 seconds. If you want to change the time, you need to turn off the [Low Power Mode] (Navigate to [Settings], [Battery], [Low Power Mode]). After disabling the Low Power Mode, please modify the auto lock screen time in [Display & Brightness] according to your need.

And if you set [Never] in [Auto-Lock], device will only lock the screen after you pressing side button or power button. Although keeping screen on is convenience when we need to use a App continuously, it will consume much power. It is not recommended to choose “Never” in Auto-Lock function.

2. Force Restart iPhone

If the settings in Auto-Lock is correct, but iPhone auto lock still does not work, just try to restart the iPhone. Following are about how to force restart different models of iPhone:

iPhone 8 and Later Models:

1. Quickly press and release the Volume Up button.

2. Quickly press and release the Volume Down button.

3. Hold the Power Button until the apple logo appears. Then please try to unlock the device after restart.

iPhone 7 & iPhone 7 Plus:

1. Hold the Power Button.

2. Hold the Volume Down button to turn off the screen.

3. Hold these 2 buttons until the apple logo appears which means the device has been restart.

iPhone 6S or Earlier Models:

Hold the Power and Home button for 10 seconds until the apple logo appears.

You Map app may enable Keep Screen On when navigating function. If this button is turned on, auto lock in the iPhone will not work. To turn off this function please go to the settings in the map app and check the related settings.
