Part 1: What is MXF File?
MXF (Material Exchange Format) is the audio/video format, defined by the standard SMPTE. This format is the solution to problems arisen from the unprofessional formats, and mainly used in the professional digital cameras for data storage. Many cameras, such as XF300/XF305 and Sony XDCAM, apply the MXF format. However, it is incompatible with many editing tools (Windows Movie Maker/iMovie included), players and devices. If you want to play the MXF file, you should convert it to the other formats, or use the MXF-supported players. It is suggested that you convert the format to MP4 because the converted file can be easily played and edited in the devices, especially Android phone, iPhone, iPad and iPad.
Tips MP4 is one of the popular formats. It can save video and audio data, and subtitles. Also, it is supported in PC, phone, video player and streaming media.
