When we shoot a great-looking video clip but later find that the video has some unwanted noise or undesired sound and want to change the background music or replace it with our own audio track, you need to remove the sound from the video clip first. Below are some approaches to help you to remove audio from video.

Approach 1: Use FFmpeg to Remove Audio from Video

This approach can only remove audio from video, if you want to add background music or your own audio track, it is recommended you to try approach 2.

① First download FFmpeg to your computer, then press Win+R to open the run dialog and type [cmd] to open Command Prompt.

② Open Command Prompt and input the command: C:\Windows\System32\ffmpeg.exe -i e:2018.mp4 –c copy -an e:201819.mp4

③ When the operation is completed, then you remove the audio from video successfully.

Command annotations:

[C:\Windows\System32\ffmpeg.exe] the save path and name of FFmpeg
[-i e:2018.mp4] -i is followed by the saving path, name and video format of a video file
[–c copy] originally copy the coding format of video and audio
[-an e:201819.mp4] -an represents to delete an audio and is followed by the video output path, name and format

Approach 3: How to Remove Audio from Video with iMovie

This approach only applies to Mac OS. If you want to remove audio from video on Windows, please choose approach 2.

① Open iMovie and pull down the File menu, add a new project and import a video to the project.

② When import a video, click and drag the video into the iMovie timeline.

③ Right click the file from the timeline, click on the [Detach audio] option to split the video from the audio track (the audio track becomes a detached green audio clip).

④ Right click the green audio clip and hit the [Delete] option to remove the audio.
