a. Download and install Renee Audio Tools.

b. Open and click [Converter].

c. Click [Add Files] to select the target MP3 file.

d. Click [Cut]. Then, drag the progress bar or set the specific start and end time to cut the ringtone file.

e. After that, click [OK] to confirm the cut part and return to the main interface. Next, select M4A as the output format and select the output folder and output quality. Finally, click [Start] to save and generate the new audio file.

2. Convert M4A to M4R

Yet, the audio format of iPhone ringtone should be M4R. Hence, we should convert M4A to M4R.

a. Open [This PC] and click [View].

b. Check [File name extensions] in the menu.

c. Select the target file and pay attention to the file extension.

d. Rename to change from “.m4a” to “.m4r”.

e. If the computer asks you whether want to modify the extension, click [Yes].

After getting the M4R file, you can continue to transfer the file to iTunes.

3. Transfer Audio File to iPhone

The latest iTunes has removed [Tones] from the Library. Therefore, the tones will not be synced with the Library anymore and they can be deleted directly in iOS devices (i.e. iPhone and iPad).

How to set the edited songs as ringtones for iPhone?

a. Open iTunes and click the phone-like icon. And then please go to [Tones] tab in [On My Device]. Finally, drap and drop the target audio file to iTunes.
