By default, the iPhone backup is not encrypted. If you want to encrypt to backup iPhone, you should connect your phone to the computer and then set a passcode through iTunes. Encrypted backups can include information that is excluded in the unencrypted backups, namely the Wi-Fi settings, the website history, the saved passwords and the health data will be backed up. 1. Check Mac OS Keychain Access

For Mac users, if you set the backup password protection in the computer, you can check the password in Keychain Access. Here are the steps:

Step 1: Open [Applications] – [Preferences] – [Keychain Access].

Step 2: Search [backup] and then double click at the option [iOS Backup] or [iPhone Backup]. Then, check the box [Show password]. You will see the password of the encrypted backup.

2. Reset iPhone to Create New Backup

When you don’t remember the password of the encrypted backup, it cannot be opened or recovered. In iOS11 and the above versions, you can reset all settings to remove the password, and then create a new backup. It is noted that this method should not work in iOS 10 and the earlier versions.

Here are the steps:

Step 1: On iPhone, tap on [Settings] – [General] – [Reset] – [Reset All Settings] and then enter your device passcode. Follow the steps to reset your settings. This won’t affect your user data or passwords, but it will reset settings like display brightness, Home screen layout, and wallpaper. It also removes your encrypted backup password.

Step 2: Then, connect your iPhone to the computer and encrypt to a new backup through iTunes.
