Solution #1: Remove all External Devices

If your computer connects external devices which could have something wrong, it will be likely to cause Windows 10 black screen with cursor at startup. It’s suggested to power off the PC, check all USB ports on your PC and then disconnect all external devices such as USB, CD, removable hard disk, printer, etc.

Solution #2: Scan and Restore the Bad Tracks of the Hard Disk

You can use hard disk detection software to scan and restore the bad tracks. For example, use MHDD software (You need to create a bootable USB drive). If there are a few bad tracks, you can try to restore or erase them. If there are lots of bad tracks that cannot be restored, you will need to replace the hard disk.

Please boot into Safe Mode before trying the following methods.

Step 1: When your PC is off, please press the Power button to start it. Hold the Power button for five seconds until PC shuts down. Please repeat these steps until you get into the Windows Automatic Repair. Please click “Advanced Options” in “Startup Repair”.

Step 2: After you go into Windows recovery environment, please select these options in order : “Troubleshoot” — “Advanced options” — “Startup settings”. Finally, click “Restart”.

Step 3: Please press “5” or “F5” to enter safe mode with networking after you restart your PC. Next, you can start to fix the Windows 10 black screen with cursor according to the methods below.

Solution #1: Uninstall Applications Installed recently

Step 1: In safe mode, press “Win”+ “R” key then enter” control” and click “OK”.

Step 2: Click “Programs” and “Programs and Features” in “Control Panel”.

Right click the recently installed applications then click “Uninstall”. Finally, restart your PC.

Solution #2: Use command prompt to repair Windows 10

This solution will be divided into two parts. In order to prevent data loss, it’s suggested to transfer your important files or data before restoring the system. The First Part: Use DISM command to repair Windows 10 image

In safe mode, please make the whole process including CheckHealth, ScanHealth and RestoreHealth. Please complete them in order.

Step 1: Type “cmd” in search box, right click “Command Prompt” and click “Run as administrator”.

Step 2: Go on to CheckHealth.

In the command prompt window, please type in: DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth, press “Enter”.

Note: CheckHealth only detect the damaged files but not restore.

Step 3: Go on to ScanHealth.

In the command prompt window, please type in: DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth, press “Enter”.

Note: ScanHealth will scan the damaged part of Windows image and whole process will take about 10 minutes. Please wait patiently.

Step 4: Go on to RestoreHealth.

In the command prompt window, please type in: DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth and press “Enter”.

Note: RestoreHealth will perform restoration, which will take up to 20 minutes to complete. Please wait patiently.

When you execute the above commands, DISM will automatically replace the damaged files with Windows Update. If there’s something wrong with Windows Update, you can use “install.esd” file as repair source.

1.Type “cmd” in search box to open “Command Prompt” and run as administrator. If your system has been upgraded to Windows 10, “install.esd” file is probably still on C: drive. Then type in: DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:C:\$Windows.~BT\Sources\Install.esd, press “Enter”.

2. If the file is on other drive, please type in: DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source: file path\install.esd, press “Enter”. (Please replace the file path with the drive where your Install.esd file locates.)

The Second Part: Use SFC command to repair Windows 10 problems

Step 1: In safe mode, press Win + I key at the same time to open “Windows Settings”.

Click “Update & Security” and click “Recovery”. Finally click “Restart now” under “Advanced startup”.

Step 2: After restarting your PC and enter “Choose an option” page, please select these options in order.

Troubleshoot” — “ Advanced options” — “Command prompt”. And then choose your user account and type login password, press “Enter”.

Step 3: When you see the Command prompt window

Please type in: wmic logicaldisk get deviceid, volumename, description, press “Enter”.

Tips: Please find out the System Reserved partition and system disk. See the attached picture below. C: disk is System Reserved partition and D: disk is system disk.

Step 4: Start to repair Windows 10 problems.

Please type in: sfc /scannow /offbootdir=C:\ /offwindir=D:\Windows. Press “Enter”.
Finally, restart your PC after the restoration process is completed.

Note: /offbootdir specifies the System Reserved partition and /offwindir specifies the Windows partition. Please type in the drive letter conforming to the actual conditions of your PC.
