Windows 10 Boots to Black Screen with Sound
Poor Connection between Computer and Monitor
Please have a check of the power supply and connection of the computer monitor. Black screen somtimes could be caused by the poor connection between computer and monitor. Besides, the aged power lines could also lead to black screen in Windows 10. If computer still boots to black screen after going through all these steps, there may be something wrong with the hardware and lead to black screen. Here we need to go further to check the hardware or send the computer to professional.
Something Wrong with Computer Hardware
If there is something wrong with the essential hardware in PC, BIOS will make notificiton sound if it detects problem in Self-Test. Different patterns represent different hardware problems.
- Repeat Long Beep: RAM has poor connection or gets broken.
- 1 long and 2 short beeps: Monitor or graphic card has poor connection or gets broken.
Poor connection between RAM, Monitor or graphic card and PC: Black screen caused by monitor or graphic card is very commmon. First, we need to have a check of the connection of RAM. Then is the connetion of monitor and graphic card. Besides, the connection between graphic card and the I/O connector should be checked as well. To get a better connection, we can also take the RAM off and reinstall it if necessary.
Laptop Battery does not Work
If you are using laptop, please take off the battery and disconnect all uncessary external devices like printer and game controller. And please keep keyboard, mouse and monitor connected. Reconnect the battery or the power supply and start the laptop after 60 second.
Windows 10 Boots to Black Screen but with Cursor
External Device
Sometimes, we may set the computer to boot from other devices like USB disk. So, any external devices which connects to computer will lead to black screen. So, if we encounter Windows 10 boots to black screen, please remove uncessary external devices especially USB disk and SD card.
MBR/DBR Get Corrupted or Damaged
When computer start up, it will read the boot loader code from MBR/DBR. If the boot loader code get corrupted or damaged, Windows 10 will boot to black screen with cursor blinking on the top left corner.
Here we can fix the corrupted MBR/DBR boot loader code with Windows RE or other third party software.
Solution 1: Create Windows 10 installation media and run Windows RE after booting from the media
Create Windows 10 installation media and get access to Windows RE after booting the computer from the created media. If you do not have Windows 10 installation media, we can create one with USB or CD, but we recommend you to create disk with USB.
Step 1: Download Windows 10 Media Creation Tool in any workable Windows computer.

Step 2: After installation, please double click to open the file. Choose “Create installation media for another PC”.
Step 3: Select “USB flash drive” in “Choose which media to use”.
Step 4: Then it starts to download whole Windows 10 installation file. This process may take hours because the file is about 7GB. After finish, Windows Media Creation will save the installation file to the selected USB disk.
Step 5: Connect the Windows 10 installation USB disk to target computer and set the computer to boot from the USB disk.
Step 6: Select “Repair your computer” in Windows Setup window.
Step 7: Select “Troubleshoot”.
Step 8: Choose “Advanced options” in “Troubleshoot” and then click on “Command Prompt” inside.
Step 9: Enter the following command one after the other. After repair finish, please restart the computer.

BOOTREC /FIXMBR means to fix the boot information in MBR. But it will not fix the partition table.

Solution 2: Boot the Computer and Fix MBR and DBR with Bootable Created by Third-party Software
Boot the Computer and Fix MBR and DBR with Bootable Created by Third-party Software. Here we recommend you to try Renee Passnow. This software is equipped with MBR Repair function which is free from charge.
Step 1: Download and install Renee Passnow in any Windows computer which can login and work normally. Then connect USB disk/CD/DVD to computer and Launch Renee Passnow.
Step 2: Open the software. Select one option from [Crate a Live USB] and [Create a Live CD]. Then, select [x64] or [x86] according to your computer. Next, click on [Download Now] to download the licensed ISO. Remember to activate the software beforehand. After that, click on [Create USB] to create the boot media.
Step 3: Connect the created rescue USB/CD to target computer.
Step 4: Boot computer and press hotkey to access BIOS. Adjust the boot order to make computer to boot from USB disk or CD/DVD accrodingly. Save and restart computer.

Step 5: Select “Windows Recovery” function after booting from the new created Windows password reset disk.
Step 6: Select “Fix CHS Parameters in MBR” then choose the disk and click “Fix MBR”. After fixing, please restart computer.
