Summary
Windows 7 won’t boot, which is a very common problem. But in this case, some users usually intend to reinstall system or ask computer technician to repair it. In fact, we can fix it by ourselves if we find out the real reason why Windows 7 won’t start. Next, let’s learn about some reasons and try to fix the Windows 7 startup problem.

Reason 1: Poor Connection

Computer won’t start if there’s something wrong with computer power cord such as faulty connection, loose plugs and so on. Besides, power failure or damaged power button can also cause this problem. Please refer to Solution 1 to check the power supply, power button and power cord.

Reason 2: Hardware Failure

Hardware failure is one of the reasons that may cause the startup problem. Usually, this could be caused by the motherboard, graphics card and computer memory which could have something wrong. Please refer to Solution 2 to check the hardware.

Reason 3: External Device

If your computer connects to external devices which could probably have something wrong, Windows 7 will probably not boot normally. Please refer to Solution 3 to remove all external devices from your PC.

Reason 4: Damaged MBR/DBR

Computer reads the boot loader code from MBR/DBR when it boots. If the boot loader code is damaged, it may cause the black screen problem and the PC will not boot normally. Please refer to Solution 4 to fix MBR/DBR.

Windows 7 Won’t Boot? How to Fix?

Solution 1: Check the Power Supply, Power Button and Power Cord

Step 1: Check the power button and power light. If button is damaged or the power light does not flash at all, they will need to be repaired.

Step 2: Check the connection between computer desktop and monitor. If the connection is poor, please reconnect.

Step 3: Check the power supply. You could try to replace it with the same model. Then you will know whether the original one works or not.

Please go on to Solution 2  if the power supply, power button and power cord are in good condition.

Solution 2: Check Monitor, Motherboard, Graphics Card and Computer Memory

Firstly, check all internal connections and see if they are loose or damaged. Next, take off the computer memory and graphics card and then clean them. Or you could try to replace the computer memory and graphics cards with new ones. Then you will know whether the original one works or not.

Next, check the motherboard. Check all connections and remove dust. If there’s something wrong with the motherboard, it would be better to fix it with professional.

Please go on to Solution 3 if the above ways still cannot troubleshoot your PC’s problem. It’s suggested to ask a professional computer technician to repair it if you don’t know how to deal with it.

Solution 3: Remove External Devices

Power off your PC and then remove all uncessary external devices such as USB, CD, mobile hard disk, printer, etc.

Restart your PC after all external devices were removed. Please go on to Solution 4 if this way still cannot solve your problem.

Here are detailed steps on how to reset login password with Renee PassNow.

Step 1: Download and install Renee PassNow in any workable Windows computer.

Step 2: Choose creation method, USB or CD/DVD.

Select one option from [Crate a Live USB] and [Create a Live CD]. Then, select [x64] or [x86] according to your computer. Next, click on [Download Now] to download the licensed ISO. Remember to activate the software beforehand. After that, click on [Create USB] to create the boot media.

Step 3: Boot the target PC from the created password reset USB/CD/DVD.

You will boot the target computer via a new created reset disk. Firstly, please hold a hot key to enter the BIOS menu and put CD-ROM or Removable Devices as the first choice. Step 4: Select “Windows Recovery”.

Step 5: Select “Fix CHS Parameters in MBR” then choose the disk and click “Fix MBR”. After fixing, please restart your computer.

Solution 5: Boot into Windows Advanced Options Menu

Step 1: Restart your PC. Hold down “F8” when Windows screen begins to load. Click “Repair your computer” after you go into Advanced Options Menu.

Step 2: click “Startup Repair” in “System Recovery Options” window. Then it will scan the computer.

Step 3: If there’re some problems, “Startup Repair” will fix them. Please restart your PC once the recovery process complete.

If startup repair failed, it could be caused the loss of system files. Please refer to Solution 6 or reinstall system.

Solution 6: Perform the Last Known Good Configuration

Step 1: Start your PC and hold down “F8” to enter “Advanced Boot Options”. Select “Last Known Good Configuration”.

Step 2: After you select “Last Known Good Configuration”, it will start your PC using the configuration stored at last successful shutdown.

If all these ways cannot fix your PC, you will need to reinstall system. It’s suggested to use Renee PassNow to transfer important data  before reinstalling system.

Step 3: Boot the target computer with the created bootable media.

Step 4: After loading into the main interface of Renee Passnow, please select “Data Transfer” function.

Step 5: Select the original disk and target disk. And drag the target files to the target disk directly.
