1. First, create a new folder and put the target file into the folder.

2. Then, open Disk Utility and click on [File] on the top menu of the desktop.

3. Select [New] – [Disk Image from Folder].

4. Next, navigate to the folder you wish to turn into an encrypted drive and click on [Image].

5. Name for the encrypted file and set a storage position.

6. Select [128-bit AES encryption] or [256-bit AES encryption] from the option [Encryption] and set [read/write] as the image format.

7. Set and confirm the passcode of the file.

8. After that, click on [Save]. Then, a .dgm encrypted file will be in the designated position.

9. Next time, enter the correct password to open the file.

TipsAfter these steps, you should restart the computer. When the .dgm file is open, an icon will appear on the desktop. You can drag the icon to the trash and then restart the computer. Then file will be closed and encrypted again.

Method 2: Use Openssl Command to Encrypt File

1. Open Terminal on Mac and then type [openssl aes-256-cbc -in~ /Desktop/Photo.jpg -out~ /Desktop/Encrypted.file].

2. Run the command and then set a passcode for the file.

Opens and aes-256-cbc indicate the encryption ways.

-in~ /Desktop /Photo.jpg is the address of the target file you wish to encrypt.

-out~ /Desktop /Encrypted.file means the storage position of the file after encryption.

You can type the command [openssl aes-256-cbc -in -d~ /Desktop/Encrypted.file -out~ /Desktop /Photo.jpg] to decrypt the file.

Method 3: Encrypt Document with WPS Office

WPS Office offers the encryption function. The followings are the steps about how to encrypt files on Mac with WPS Office.

1. Open the target file within WPS Office.

2. Click the Menu button and select [File Information] > [Encryption].

3. Then, set a passcode for the file and click on [OK].

4. After that, the file will be locked.
