How to Play SWF Files?

Summary
Many people are not familiar about SWF file, even they never meet with such kind of file. In this essay, we will talk about SWF file and show you how to convert and edit such file.
SWF is the Shockwave Flash Movie file created by Adobe. It is the vector-based Flash animation format. SWF file is used for animation and sounds which are based on videos and vector data. Generally, it occurs in programs and web games, and it can be transferred online. We can use some Adobe applications to create SWF files, but the other third-party programs can produce the Shockwave Flash Movie file, such as MTASC, Ming and SWFTools. If you want to open SWF files, you can use the Flash plug-in in web browser.
Between 2000 and 2010, the SWF file could be usually seen in animation graphics, videos and sounds online, mainly shown in browser games. However, along with the development of the web technology, Flash is lack of well performance and with server security problem. Therefore, few people use SWF files now, and Adobe eased using and developing Shockwave Flash. Besides, the other network technologies, such as HTML5 and CSS3, can be the replacement of SWF.
Note: The SWF file includes the compiled ActionScript and the compressed media. Therefore, we don’t suggest that you edit the SWF file directly. You shall convert SWF to the other formats before editing.
Difference between SWF and FLV
Adobe publishes 2 document formats, FLV and SWF. Here are the differences.
- Originally, SWF was used to display the small vector graphics in the websites. FLV stands for flash video used for the streaming video in the Internet.
- Using ActionScript can compile SWF file to realize interactivity and use the file in online games. FLV cannot get these points.
- FLV is a way of lossy compression while SWF is lossless. That means a SWF file is larger than a FLV file with the same content.
- Since a SWF file merely save certain frames, the SWF video cannot last for a long time. On the contrary, FLV can be used for long and high-quality video.

Steps:
① First, download and install Renee Video Editor Pro.
② Open the software and get into [Video Toolbox].
③ Click on [Add Files] to select the SWF file.
④ Select an output format and output folder. After that, click on [Start]. In the following window, set the SWF video length and check the option [Please finish the recording for me at this time]. Finally, click on [Start Recording] to save the video.

FFmpeg is the free, open-source multimedia software supporting most of audio and video formats and format conversion. We use FFmpeg by writing the command lines. If you are not clear about how to write the commands, the former method will be suitable for you.
Steps:
① Download and install FFmpeg. Press the keys [Win + R], and then type and run [cmd].
② To convert SWF to MP4, type the command [C:\Windows\System32\ffmpeg.exe –i D:\ SWF\Peace.swf D:\Peace.mp4]. Press the Enter key to convert SWF to MP4. It is noted that “D:\ SWF\Peace.swf” should be the position, name and format of the original file, and “D:\Peace.mp4” be the position path, name and format of the converted file.

1. Cut
If you want to remove the unwanted part from a video, you can cut the video with Renee Video Editor Pro.
Step:
① Download and install Renee Video Editor Pro. Open the software and select [Video Toolbox].
② Then, click on [Add Files] to select the target video.
③ Move the sliders to set the start and end time to cut the video.
2. Merge Videos
We can use Renee Video Editor Pro to combine several videos into one even though they are not in the same format.
Steps:
① Download and install Renee Video Editor Pro. Open the software and then select [Video Toolbox].
② Click on [Add Files] to select the target videos. Check the option [Merge all files into one].
Optional operation: We can add some transitions between the videos by clicking at the [+] icon next to [No transition].
③ Finally, select the output format and click on [Start] to save the combined video.
3. Crop/Flip/Rotate Video
Steps:
① Open the software and click [Video Toolbox] – [Add Files] to select the target video.
② Get into [Rotate & Crop]. Then, select to rotate and flip the video screen. Besides, manually adjust the crop area.
4. Add Special Effects
Steps:
① Download and install Renee Video Editor Pro. Open the software and select [Video Toolbox].
② Click on [Add Files] to select the video.
③ Get into [Effect] and then select [Add Filter], [Add Zoom Effect] and [Add Audio Effect].
5. Add Watermark
Sometimes, we want to add the watermark in order to protect the video from being copied.
Steps:
① Download and install Renee Video Editor Pro. Open the software and select [Video Toolbox].
② Click on [Add Files] to select the video.
③ Get into [Watermark] and then select to add text/image/video/shape watermark, or remove the unwanted watermark.
6. Add Background Music
Adding background music can emphasize the video theme well.
Steps:
① Download and install Renee Video Editor Pro. Open the software and select [Video Toolbox].
② Click on [Add Files] to select the target video.
③ Get into [Music] and then select to add audios and voice over the video, or reset the operations. Besides, check the option to remove the original sounds from the video.
7. Add Subtitles
Steps:
① Download and install Renee Video Editor Pro. Open the software and select [Video Toolbox].
② Click on [Add Files] to select the target video.
③ Get into [Subtitle] and then click at the [+] icon to load the subtitle file and create the file.
④ If you select the option [Create Subtitle File], you can modify the start and end time of each subtitle, and then edit the subtitles well. Finally, adjust the subtitle color, font style and the subtitle position.
