Part 1: Why is There Not Enough Space on SSD?

SSD (solid state drive) will slow down as more and more data are stored. If over 90% space of a partition has been used, the SSD will be corrupted easily. Therefore, it is critical to clear unnecessary files and set the appropriate virtual memory size for a SSD.

It is recommended that you select the 256GB SSD at least. The 128GB SSD seems not to be enough for an operating system because a basic set (Windows 10 system, Office and data cache) can take up 90GB or more. Once the occupation is over 90%, the SSD will perform worse.

Part 2: How If There Not Enough Space on SSD?

Yet, when you have had the smaller SSD, how should you do if there is not enough space?

1. Close Home Group Provider

If you enable the home group provider, the system will constantly copy and share files. Soon, your SSD will have not enough space.

How to close:：
Press [Win + R] and type [services.msc]; press [OK] to enter Services; find out the item [HomeGroup Provider]; right-click at [Properties] and click [Stop].

2. Close Virtual Memory

To avoid the physical memory out of space, the virtual memory will transfer partial applications to the SSD. Yet, if the physical memory is enough, this function can only consume much more space on SSD.

How to close:：
Press [Win + R] and type [control]; click [OK] to enter Control Panel; Select [System and Security] > [System]; click [Advanced system settings] at the left side.

Then, select the tab [Advanced] > [Performance] > [Settings]; click [Virtual memory] in [Advanced] and select [Change]; finally, uncheck [Automatically manage paging file size for all drives].

3. Close Windows Defender

Windows Defender can scan the whole operating system, which can increase the SSD occupation. If you have installed the other anti-virus software, you can close Windows Defender.

How to close:：
After logging in the administrator account, press [Win + R] and type [Windows Defender]; click [OK] to enter Windows Defender Security Center.

Then, open [Virus & threat protection] > [Virus & threat protection settings]; disenable [Real-time protection], [Cloud-based protection] and [Automatic sample submission].

4. Clone Hard Disk Drive

All the approaches mentioned above are temporary relieves. If you want to store more newly generated data, a SSD with larger capacity is the final solution. Then, you can clone the data from the small SSD to the larger one.
